Happy Friday, everyone! I've been working on this post for a few weeks now taking pics as I go and I am so excited to finally share it with you! For those of you who don't know, I am currently a student teacher which means that I teach about half the day with a hired teacher in the room for two semesters before I can get my credential. When I was first accepted into the program, I soon realized that I would have to dress professionally everyday, but I didn't have any office or work attire in my closet (aside from maybe one pair of interview trousers that were too long). I didn't want to buy a whole new wardrobe, so I instead stepped back and looked at what I already had with a new perspective. I'm surprised at how many outfits I've been able to pull together by just adding a few key pieces to my wardrobe! Today, I am going to share 5 looks that I created using pieces you probably already own and a few versatile pieces to add (:
Outfit #1:
For this first look, I wanted to show you how I would wear an outfit both to school and on a regular day out. I kept my outfit simple with a plain, white button up and jeans. This made it easy to change the style simply by changing my accessories. I wore this out shopping, so I made the look more casual by adding a printed headband, pineapple earrings and my small crock bag from forever 21. When I wore the look to school, I removed the headband and brushed my hair into a sleek, low bun. I also traded the pineapple earrings for some gold tube hoops. I kept the shoes the same because they're honestly so cute for spring and look good both in and out of the office. I've really been loving mules lately for this reason, and you’ll be seeing them more in this post!
Outfit #2:
I think this outfit is so cute and I would wear it any day (I do!). The only thing I would switch out for school would be the heels. I don’t like wearing heels during school as any heel eventually hurts my feet if I stand in them too long (yeah yeah I'm a baby lol). I still don't own a blazer, but I found that structured jackets work just as well when it comes to the office/school. This camel utility jacket from Cotton On is perfect! I also love pairing denim jackets with different colored culottes. These are great alternatives if you don’t own a blazer!
I know I should probably get one since they are business outfit staples (and now, everyday staples really), but I have yet to find one that doesn't hang far below my waist or completely hide my hands (short problems), so I've basically given up. Maybe I’ll find the perfect one someday? We'll just have to wait and see... Outfit #3:
This long sleeve white top is one that I bought specifically for teaching. However, a plain high neck top is a staple in any wardrobe and I should've gotten one sooner! I love it for school because It’s conservative and immediately makes me look more sophisticated. I always wear it with my hair back in an equally sophisticated bun with a pair of statement earrings. I paired it with my brown culottes which I bought for spring and I’m so glad that they work for school too because I can get more out of them! I added sandals to complete the look, but if your job doesn’t allow open-toed shoes, then a pair of white or nude mules or slingbacks would be cute too!
oUTFIT #4:
The top you see here is actually a bodysuit and I’ve had it forever. It’s perfect because you don’t have to tuck it in and you don’t have to worry about it coming out! I wear it all the time and it’s so easy to pair with different bottoms. You already saw me wear it with jeans in my second outfit, and now I’ve paired it with a pair of tie-waist trousers. As I said before, denim jackets are a great alternative to a blazer, and I am wearing my favorite one for school here. I completed the look with a pair of black mules and I’ll save you from having to read about my obsession with mules again ha!
oUTFIT #5:
For my final outfit, I styled a pair of plaid leggings from Forever 21. The pattern alone is what makes these perfect for work! They are leggings, so they stretch and there's no buttons or ties to worry about! I left my top untucked to hide the elasticised waist haha. I love this white blouse because of the detailed sleeves and neckline which I think adds so much to my outfit and it's so cute for spring! I paired it with my yellow mules to add a pop of color (:
