I'm back again and with a whole new project! Today, I'd like to introduce you to Pieces by Starkisha, my handmade polymer clay jewelry collection!! I started making jewelry when I was about ten years old, except I used beads (I had hundreds of beads in too many shapes and colors to remember, and my sister would steal them all the time lol). I think it's safe to say many of us have been a little bored since quarantine especially in the beginning when everything was closed. With this newfound free time, I rediscovered my love for jewelry making, but with a whole new medium, polymer clay. It's something I really love to do and it doesn't feel like a chore. It's actually very relaxing and I love that no piece can ever be created exactly the same! I decided to start a small etsy shop and a Depop because no one needs 20 pairs of earrings with the same pattern haha! If you'd like a pair, I will link both shops below. The picture is of my first collection, The Daisy Collection. You can see more of the pieces below (:

Hello and welcome to my first post of 2020! I know I haven't posted in awhile, but I'm still here!! Mini update: I finished the teaching credential program (WOO!) which is what kept me very busy. If you follow me on instragram, then you know I've been back there for a minute. Lately in my posts, I've been wearing boots on repeat and, today, I'm going to share three different ways to style boots this season. Alright, so I'll be styling two pairs of combat boots in today's post. First up are these croc print boots from Topshop. I was looking for something a little chunkier than my other pair (which you'll see next) with just a bit of a larger heel which made these great for walking in the snow. Here I styled them with straight leg jeans, a high-neck top, and a teddy coat. It's best to wear a heel with this style of jeans, so you don't truncate your legs (I'm already 5'), so the boots were perfect. You can purchase them here. On this day, I wore a flatter combat boot. No wide-leg, no heel necessary! lol. These of course you can easily wear with skinny jeans, but it was pretty warm for a day in January, so I opted for a corduroy skirt and tights instead! I love how the boots bring some edginess to the entire look. The boots are old from River Island, but you can purchase a similar pair here. For my third look, I styled a chelsea boot. These are so easy to slip on and off, and the chunky heel made them comfortable for walking. Again, when wearing a wide leg pant, wearing a shoe with a heel will help to elongate your legs. Also, because these pants are a little more cropped, they helped to expose a little bit of skin which kept me from being swallowed in fabric! I paired it with a black high-neck bodysuit and open t-shirt jacket. I bought these secondhand, but I found a few similar pairs here and here.

Happy Friday, everyone! I've been working on this post for a few weeks now taking pics as I go and I am so excited to finally share it with you! For those of you who don't know, I am currently a student teacher which means that I teach about half the day with a hired teacher in the room for two semesters before I can get my credential. When I was first accepted into the program, I soon realized that I would have to dress professionally everyday, but I didn't have any office or work attire in my closet (aside from maybe one pair of interview trousers that were too long). I didn't want to buy a whole new wardrobe, so I instead stepped back and looked at what I already had with a new perspective. I'm surprised at how many outfits I've been able to pull together by just adding a few key pieces to my wardrobe! Today, I am going to share 5 looks that I created using pieces you probably already own and a few versatile pieces to add (:
Outfit #1:
For this first look, I wanted to show you how I would wear an outfit both to school and on a regular day out. I kept my outfit simple with a plain, white button up and jeans. This made it easy to change the style simply by changing my accessories. I wore this out shopping, so I made the look more casual by adding a printed headband, pineapple earrings and my small crock bag from forever 21. When I wore the look to school, I removed the headband and brushed my hair into a sleek, low bun. I also traded the pineapple earrings for some gold tube hoops. I kept the shoes the same because they're honestly so cute for spring and look good both in and out of the office. I've really been loving mules lately for this reason, and you’ll be seeing them more in this post!
Outfit #2:
I think this outfit is so cute and I would wear it any day (I do!). The only thing I would switch out for school would be the heels. I don’t like wearing heels during school as any heel eventually hurts my feet if I stand in them too long (yeah yeah I'm a baby lol). I still don't own a blazer, but I found that structured jackets work just as well when it comes to the office/school. This camel utility jacket from Cotton On is perfect! I also love pairing denim jackets with different colored culottes. These are great alternatives if you don’t own a blazer!
I know I should probably get one since they are business outfit staples (and now, everyday staples really), but I have yet to find one that doesn't hang far below my waist or completely hide my hands (short problems), so I've basically given up. Maybe I’ll find the perfect one someday? We'll just have to wait and see... Outfit #3:
This long sleeve white top is one that I bought specifically for teaching. However, a plain high neck top is a staple in any wardrobe and I should've gotten one sooner! I love it for school because It’s conservative and immediately makes me look more sophisticated. I always wear it with my hair back in an equally sophisticated bun with a pair of statement earrings. I paired it with my brown culottes which I bought for spring and I’m so glad that they work for school too because I can get more out of them! I added sandals to complete the look, but if your job doesn’t allow open-toed shoes, then a pair of white or nude mules or slingbacks would be cute too!
oUTFIT #4:
The top you see here is actually a bodysuit and I’ve had it forever. It’s perfect because you don’t have to tuck it in and you don’t have to worry about it coming out! I wear it all the time and it’s so easy to pair with different bottoms. You already saw me wear it with jeans in my second outfit, and now I’ve paired it with a pair of tie-waist trousers. As I said before, denim jackets are a great alternative to a blazer, and I am wearing my favorite one for school here. I completed the look with a pair of black mules and I’ll save you from having to read about my obsession with mules again ha!
oUTFIT #5:
For my final outfit, I styled a pair of plaid leggings from Forever 21. The pattern alone is what makes these perfect for work! They are leggings, so they stretch and there's no buttons or ties to worry about! I left my top untucked to hide the elasticised waist haha. I love this white blouse because of the detailed sleeves and neckline which I think adds so much to my outfit and it's so cute for spring! I paired it with my yellow mules to add a pop of color (:

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I am back from my Catalina trip (blog on that soon) and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my spring break. I wore this look one day on the island and was inspired to write a post on styling midi skirts! Since I am 5', I will also share one of my favorite stores to shop petite online and some of my favorite midi skirts from them now!
My Outfit:
This is the only petite skirt I own because I always thought skirts of this length would truncate my legs. When I saw this high-low style and minimal leopard print on ASOS I fell in love and decided to take the risk. I'm so glad I did because the skirt fit me perfectly! My favorite way to wear midi skirts is with a graphic tee. I just love the contrast of something so flowy and girly with a structured, or boxy top. I linked the outfit down below. Unfortunately, my skirt is sold out, but I still included it incase it comes back in stock.
Style Tips:
Midi skirts in general will make us shorties look a little taller than when wearing a maxi skirt. The key with any bottom is to show a little skin and wear something high-waisted. Midi skirts are meant to show a little ankle, and it's easy to pull them up to your desired height (just make sure the skirt isn't too high that you shorten your torso!) It also helps to wear a top that is cropped, or tucked in.
Try a heel or a sandal. The heel doesn't have to be high. The WhoWhatWear mule I wore was a comfortable height, but still tall enough to make me look a little less short. I suggest wearing a sandal because sneakers with long skirts will further shorten us petites. If you must wear a sneaker, try a low top or a platform. I've linked some of my favorite petite midi skirts from ASOS below, but they have a lot of great regular length skirts as well which you can find here. Shop ASOS Petite Skirts:

The first day of spring is FINALLY here, and I've been stocking up on spring shoes more than anything. I've been bringing out some old faves as well as trying new trends for the first time (hello Who What Wear mules above!) Today, I'm going to share a little bit of each, so let's jump right in!
Block-Heeled Slides
I've never loved the look of a short heel, but I made an exception for these since they're more like a sandal. They're comfy, easy to wear, and you can dress them up! The first pair are the ones I'm wearing above (:
Platform Espadrilles
I love a platform espadrille because they give you height without hurting your feet! The ones I'm wearing are from Charlotte Russe, so sadly they are no longer sold. However, there are so many different styles to try and they can be dressed up or down!
Strappy Sandals
Okay how cute are the Old Navy sandals? I love all the colors! Spring is the perfect time to add more color to your wardrobe (hello yellow!) I think this style of shoe is so cute and feminine.
patterned boots
Yes winter is over, but don't get rid of those boots just yet! They go so well with light-wash straight leg jeans and midi skirts in the spring. Plus, you can wear them in a classic spring pattern to make them more appropriate for the season!
Platform Sneakers
Okay, so I saw those white Converse and had to make this category because I need them and had to share?? lol aaanyways, these are not only great for giving my fellow shorties some height, but they also elongate your legs when wearing all those maxi skirts and dresses we see in the spring (win for everyone!)
Thanks so much for reading (: What is your favorite spring shoe trend? Let me know in the comments!
Happy Friday! It has been such a long week, but spring is only five days away and I am so excited (even though I started dressing for spring on the first lol). I don't think I've ever been so eager for a new season to begin. I think it's because the trends for fall trickle down to winter, so much of what I wear is similar, but there is such a huge difference between winter and spring fashion. More importantly, the weather is finally warming up which means dresses, skirts, and shorts!! In addition to my regular blogs, I want to start sharing some of my favorite spring looks where I talk about one outfit and why I picked each piece. As always, I will link the look at the end. Today, I'm sharing a look I wore earlier this week when the weather was warm, so if you're interested, just keep on reading (:
I'm really loving neutral tones this year and I've always been a huge fan of rust. These petite culottes are a linen blend from ASOS and they are so comfortable and lightweight. I bought the petite size and they fit me perfectly (I am 5' for reference). I loved them so much that I also bought them in beige because, if you love something, you should buy it in every color, right?? Sadly, the beige pair only come in a regular length, but they are still slightly cropped on me. I wanted to pair the rust color with all neutral tones, so I wore this beige crop from Forever 21 (linked a similar one), my knotted tote in the same color and tortoiseshell earrings. I completed the look with my white mules that I've been obsessed with lately. They're just so easy and versatile! You can shop the look below as well as the culottes in other colors (:
I hope you loved the look as much as I did! It's one of my favorites from this year. Thanks for reading as always (:
Happy Monday to all of you! This past weekend, my sister and I finally took photos in a flower field by my house. It bloomed soon after all the rain we got here in Corona, and it's perfect because it's hidden and not a lot of people know about it. When we arrived, there was only one other family which is pretty great as far as flower-field-photoshoots go this time of year. I kept my look simple with a white, crochet-lace dress which got me thinking about how much I love white for spring. A simple color (or lack thereof) is easier to wear than another trend or type of clothing because you can wear it in so many ways. Today, I'm sharing some of my favorite white pieces to buy to complete all your spring looks!
Denim, Tops, and More...
Thanks for reading!
Hello all and happy Friday! I recently went to San Diego for the day and, just before leaving, decided to spontaneously cut these jeans you see here! I bought them because they were supposed to be straight leg, but were much longer than I expected when they arrived in the mail (short girl problems!!). I had to roll them all the time, but I kept the jeans because I loved how they fit around my waist. Even then, I did not wear them all that often. Since I've cut them, I wear them a lot more and with many different styles of shoe that I could not wear before! In today's post, I'm sharing how I achieved the 'after' look in less than ten minutes. So, if you're interesting in taking some old jeans and making them new, keep on reading! Step One:I started by taking a ruler and measuring up the seam 10 cm on both sides of the pant leg. You might want to try them on for this part, so you know how high up you want to cut. I just took a guess and got lucky (you probably shouldn't take this risk since I could have cut way more than I intended which would have been bad!) I drew a small dot in pen on each side (you can see the mark at the end of the scissors). I then lightly drew a line to connect the dots. This ensures you will have a straight line across! Next, take a deep breath and start cutting! I did one leg at a time because the denim was thick, but as long as you measure, the cuts will be in the same place (: Step Two:Lastly, take the two ends of your jeans and rub them together until you get your desired look. This gives your jeans that raw hem as opposed to the clean cut look you see in step 1. If any strings are too long, you can always cut them. Keep in mind that your jeans will continue to unravel a bit when you wash them, so don't rub them too much! I hope you enjoyed this short tutorial! If you like this particular pair of jeans, you can buy them here. Thanks for reading (:
Happy Friday, loves! As the rain pours outside, I can't help but think about how excited I am for spring/summer. While I do love the rain, the gloom is not the best for shooting and it's getting harder to drag my sister outside to take my pictures (blogger problems lol), so I've already begun thinking about spring outfits! One of the resolutions I made this year was to spend less on clothes, especially those pieces I only wear a few times. Instead, I'm choosing to focus on re-styling pieces I already own. Today, I'm sharing my top five items to help you transition to spring using pieces you may already have.
Mid to Light-Wash Denim
Personally, I've always loved the look of light-wash denim in the winter, so I've purchased quite a few lighter wash denim pieces these past few months. I think this trend transitions in to spring really well. Think light wash denim jackets paired with floral dresses or t-shirts and midi skirts! With the weather heating up, it may become difficult to wear those extra tight skinny jeans, so try a cropped cut or straight leg instead!
Gold Accessories
While I do love funky, colorful, and the occasional fruit earrings, gold earrings are great year-round pieces that go well with any look. Layered and minimal necklaces continue to be one of my favorite trends that I will continue to wear this spring as well.
Animal Print
Animal print made a big comeback this winter and I think it will fit right in this spring. Think snakeskin ankle boots with denim and maxi leopard skirts with graphic tees! Animal print is also a great alternative to the same floral print we see year after year.
Mules
Another reason I'm excited for spring is to bring out my no-nonsense shoes and sandals. Mules are another shoe you can easily slip on in seconds plus, they come in so many styles and prints! I say continue wearing those everyday mules you may already have, or try one of the pairs below that give more of a spring vibe.
A Light Perfume
I took to my own perfume collection for this category and linked all of my everyday favorites below. None of these are too fruity or floral, just soft, subtle smells that are great year round.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Have a great weekend (:
If you follow me on Instagram, or have read my about page, then you already know I am a HUGE fan of Disney! I've wanted a Disney patch jacket for a while, but couldn't find the right one, so I thought I would make one myself. Keep reading to see more photos of this lovely jacket, where I bought everything, and how to easily apply patches to your own DIY jacket! Step-By-Step Pictorial:STEP 1: Picking your Material Not all materials work well with iron-on patches and certain delicate fabrics such as nylon, spandex, and polyester may be damaged by the heat of an iron. The best materials to use with iron-on patches are cotton, denim, and work-out material. I chose to work with this Levi's boyfriend jacket because I've had experience working with patches on denim before and loved how it turned out! This boyfriend jacket in general is also just really cute and I love the oversized fit (which also gives more room for patches!) STEP 2: Planning If done right, these patches can stay on for years (and even permanently if you take care of your item). Therefore, you'll want to plan out where all your patches will go before you apply them and they can't be moved around. I knew that I wanted the Baymax patch on my sleeve, so I put the jacket on and held my arm in front of me moving the patch around until it was where I wanted it to be. I then marked this area in pencil, so I would remember. Next I placed the two largest patches in the middle (Jack and the pansy) and then moved the rest of the patches around a few times before making my final decision. Don't forget to snap a pic before moving them all! STEP 3: Applying your Patches Now for the fun part! You'll want to start by removing the patches so you can work with one at a time. I applied my two largest patches first because I wanted them to be perfectly in the middle. I used a ruler for this part and measured from each edge of the jacket to the center of the patch moving it slightly until the numbers were the same. You should put a press cloth between the patch and the iron to protect the fabric from the heat and the iron from the patch. If you don't have a press cloth, a sheet works perfectly! I had my iron on the cotton setting and switched between circling around the patch and holding the iron in place for about one minute and then going over the edges for another minute. Finally, make sure to iron the inside of the your jacket, t-shirt, etc. on the other side of the patch using similar motions and simply repeat this step until you've applied each one. It took me about an hour to apply every patch. Step 4: Final Touches Once you apply all of your patches, you'll want to check that the edges aren't lifting and re-apply the iron where necessary. I also turned my jacket back over and ironed the entire inside one more time just to be safe. Remember that ironing a thick denim will take more time than a cotton t-shirt, so make sure to take your time with this to avoid your patches falling off later. I linked as many patches I could find (I've had some for awhile) and a few more favorites below! *My ears were purchased from the park and you can purchase the fanny pack here. As you can see, there's still plenty of room for more patches and I'll continue to add more as I find them. I bought all of mine at either Hot Topic or BoxLunch, but you can find great patches in Etsy stores as well that not many people will have. The more unique, the better! I hope you enjoyed this DIY pictorial!
